Guidelines

Welcome to the Strathendrick Singers. These Guidelines are designed to help you get the most out of your membership of the choir. They give you information about rehearsals and concerts and are designed to ensure the efficient running of the Singers.

Rehearsals

Rehearsals take place every Monday night at Balfron Church, starting promptly at 7:30 pm. Here is what to expect during our evenings together:

  • Punctuality & Courtesy: Please arrive a few minutes early so you’re seated and ready to go by 7:30 pm. If you are delayed, simply wait for a pause in the singing before taking your seat.
  • Quiet & Receptive: To help our Music Director and fellow singers focus, please turn off mobile phones and avoid chatting during practice.
  • Announcements & Tea Break: The Chair may share brief notices mid-rehearsal, followed by our standard tea break at 8:45 pm (approx. 15 mins). A £1 donation for tea/coffee is greatly appreciated!

Attendance

Attendance at rehearsals is expected and an informal register is taken each week. If you have not attended a sufficient number of rehearsals you may not be allowed to sing in the concert. This will be at the discretion of the Music Director.
If you know that you cannot attend a rehearsal then please let choir committee secretary know in advance by email – see below.

Music

We provide music scores for every member. Here is a handy guide on how to care for and return your music:

  • Signing Out: Please collect and sign for your score at the beginning of rehearsal.

  • Pencil Only: You are welcome to make notes on your music, but please use pencil only! You'll be responsible for erasing your notes at the end of term unless a group clean-up is organised.
  • Prompt Returns: Because music hire is a major cost for our choir, scores must be handed back immediately after each concert to avoid potential charges for unreturned copies.
  • Leaving or Taking a Break? If you take an extended break or leave the choir, please pop your music back to the choir librarian as soon as you can.

Concerts

We perform two concert programmes every year, one in December and one in March, spread across three total performances (typically two in Killearn and one nearby).

Tickets & Promotion: Every choir member plays a key part by helping sell tickets for our shows!

Pre-Concert Rehearsal: We hold a crucial final rehearsal with the orchestra on the day of the concert, which all singers are required to attend.

Concert Dress:

Women: Sleeved black top, long black skirt or black trousers, and black shoes.

Men: Black shirt and black trousers.

Music Folders: We supply choir music folders for all concert performances.

Subscriptions

Our annual subscription is £110 for the session (£15 for students). To help spread the cost, you are welcome to pay in two equal installments in October and January.

  • Cheque: Payable to Strathendrick Singers (hand directly to the Treasurer).
  • Cash: Please hand to the Treasurer in a sealed envelope marked with your name.

Communication

Announcements may be made at Monday rehearsals but details will nearly always be confirmed in emails sent out to all members. If in doubt, ask your section committee member.
